Lao PDR Introduces Lao Digital Immigration Form to Streamline Border Procedures

Lao PDR has launched a new digital system, the Lao Digital Immigration Form (LDIF), to streamline border procedures and ensure faster immigration clearance for foreign travelers. This initiative is part of the government’s effort to modernize immigration processes and replace the traditional paper-based arrival and departure forms.

Pursuant to Notification No. 3291 dated 15 August 2025, issued by the Department of Immigration of Lao PDR, Ministry of Public Security, the LDIF pilot will begin on 1 September 2025. Until 2026, all foreigners and stateless persons entering or departing Lao PDR via four international checkpoints including Wattay International Airport, Luang Prabang International Airport, Pakse International Airport, and Friendship Bridge 1 in Vientiane Capital using a passport are required to complete the online registration at www.immigration.gov.la within three days prior to travel.

This digital system will replace the manual paper-based arrival and departure forms previously used, providing a more efficient and convenient experience for travelers. After 2026, the LDIF is expected to be implemented at all checkpoints across Lao PDR, with further notifications to be issued by the authorities.
